Enjoyable albums in 2007 for me would be:
- Trail of the Unwary - Nest
- Lumikuuro - Kauan
- Worlds Collide - Apocalyptica
- Systematic Chaos - Dream Theater
- Folk Aesthetic - Tenhi
- Ziltoid the Omniscient - Devin Townsend
- both Yes and King Crimson released albums, but since they do not contain new material, I do not want to list them in here
Biggest anticipations for 2008 would include: White EP by Agalloch, Embodiment by Sculptured, Tietäjän Laulu by Kauan, an album by KTU (Mastelotto, Gunn, Pohjonen)
Already arrived in 2008: Bedlam in Goliath by The Mars Volta

. these guys sound quite like old Tenhi, but less intense. thanks for pointing them out. the new Tenhi record however will probably be their longest up to date. and with the line-up changes i am very interested how Saivo will sound like. does anyone know what the title means? .

Here are the ones I've enjoyed the most last year. Can't be sure if I remember all of them, though. A couple of them are not related to Nest's "genre", but since I get inspiration from them all, they end up influencing Nest at least a tiny bit (aren't I clever at making a different set of rules for myself ). Oh, and I must say that Doom Metal has a huge influence on Nest, although it might not be too evident in most of the songs. Candlemass - King of the Grey Islands Colosseum - Chapter 1 : Delirium Nile - Ithyphallic Novembers Doom - The Novella Reservoir Poropetra - Sinihirwi Primordial - To the Nameless Dead Tenhi - Folk Aesthetic Viikate - Marraskuun Lauluja 2 Various Artists - Entering The Levitation ~ A Tribute To Skepticism

As for the meaning of "Saivo" - I do not know what it is supposed to mean as the Tenhi album title, but that is a Sami language word - meaning the Underworld or Tuonela in Finnish. It is not "a hell" - The Hell is a different Christian concept coming from different mythologies. Sami people - if everybody does not know - are people living in the northern parts of the Nordic countries with their own language and are not related to Finns. (If you are really interested, a nice article would be for instance this: www.faqs.org/faqs/nordic-faq/part2_NORDEN/section-2.html

Tenhi are known to use archaic and/or dialect words quite a lot, but i don't think they've ever used Sámi words. dare i dream they'll be drawing inspiration from Sámi music for the upcoming album... would be nice. i know that about hell. slightly off-topic: can anyone recommend some Sámi music? i know only of Wimme (Saari) and Mari Boine.

NO NEST? Come on, it's not too narcissistic to list your own CD as one of your faves

Sorry, do not really know Sámi bands ... but how about influences of Nest ... it DOES include Lapland Drums ... I am interested to know what the artist, Mr. Tolonen, has to say about this? If I may continue this moving from one topic to another ... I would like to include The Best of 2008 into this ... and the new Agalloch White EP, because I have questions in these regards about that as well. But later ... need to create a new thread for that.

Has no one seen Sigur Ros 's Heima? Great DVD in my opinion. Probably because I went to Iceland last summer and saw it's one of the most beautiful country in the world.

Värttinä are an amazing band, but i don't recall any Sámi influences... might have overheard them - a good reason to roll through their records once again. Shaman indeed, and before that Shamaani Duo, but from my perspective the band rather deteriorated than developed into what it is now. .
