Nest will participate on a tribute album to the doom masters Skepticism. We have made our own interpretation of 'The Gallant Crow' from their first album Stormcrowfleet. This is a high honour for us, since Skepticism is one of A.T.'s all-time favourite bands. The release date of the album is the 4th of June 2007. Check this link for more info and preview samples: Entering The Levitation: a tribute to SkepticismHere is the final tracklist: CD1: 1. NEST - The Gallant Crow (13:49) 2. SHROUD OF BEREAVEMENT - Forge (7:36) 3. SHAPE OF DESPAIR - Aether (8:46) 4. WHY ANGELS FALL - Shred of Light, Pinch of Endless (9:14) 5. CORPUS OMNI DOMINI - The Rising of the Flames (9:53) 6. OKTOR - The Organium (7:30) CD2: 1. AARNI - Untitled (7:38) 2. MONOLITHE - Edges (6:44) 3. CALMSITE - Towards My End (5:01) 4. RIGOR SARDONICOUS - Chorale (7:08) 5. DARKFLIGHT - The Raven and the Backward Funeral (6:54) 6. IT WILL COME - The Falls (10.36) Total running time: 100:49 mins.

This is something I'd like to hear, even though I'm not actually a huge fan of Skepticism. There are so many good bands on it, though; Shroud of Bereavement, Darkflight, Aarni, Monolithe, Shape of Despair, and of course Nest! I'm actually quite excited to hear what you'll do with a doom metal song. This should be good.
By the way, wasn't this originally supposed to be out on Oak Knoll Productions? So many OKP artists on there, but I heard that a different label was releasing it. It sounds to me like Oak Knoll is in stasis right now; my band's working with their sub-label Burnt Oak, but I don't know all the details.
Should be good. _SK

Hehe. It probably sounds "interesting" that a band like Nest is covering a funeral doom metal band, but I assure you it wasn't hard at all. I've been interested in taking elements from other music styles for a long time already and seeing how I could translate their essence into Nest and a totally different music style. It's great fun. The result does sound like Nest song, although a heavy Nest song, naturally.
The album will be released together with two labels from USA, namely Red Stream and Oak Knoll. Foreshadow is also involved, but I don't know the actual details of each party's involvement.

Oh, I'm all for experimentation, and I love when bands do a good cover of a music style that seems so foreign to them. Something I'd like to do is to try and translate an Elend song into guitar, drums and bass. Stuff like that is always fun!

From what I've heard from the samples, the Nest track is the best (and most original) by far. That's how covers should be done, really re-interpret the original. Especially with a band as personal to me as Skepticism is. Cheers to you guys again!

So have Nest remained true to the very natural style of theirs, or drifted to incorporate oher things here? I will hear one day i am sure!

goat: I'm probably not the best person to answer this, because I'm so biased, but I see it as a natural continuation of the Nest style - taken to more metal, doom metal, direction. It still has plenty of kantele (probably more than those uninitiated to Nest can see - if you know what I mean ). The overall soundscape and instrumentation is quite similar to the 'Trail of the Unwary' material, although it contains nothing exactly like it. ...did I really answer anything here? ;D

From an outsider's perspective, I have to say that "The Gallant Crow" is trademark Nest. It has a metal spirit to it, and a colder atmosphere, but at its core I would say yes goat, it is true to Nestology.

The tribute has been released! I like all the bands and their covers, and the graphic design is splendid. This must be the best tribute album I've ever heard/seen (and I'm not just saying it because Nest was a part of it). I have some 10 copies here, so the first lucky 10 can get the thing from me for 15 Euros / 15 US Dollars (20 if you want me to send it as a registered package). Contact me, if you're interested in purchasing a copy.

Dan, the guitarist from Shroud of Bereavement is a very nice person. I see him post on the Novembers Doom forum at Ultimatemetal.com
