Salutations and good tidings, Nest. I've fallen in love with your music, and I've always wanted to get in contact with you, so here's my chance. I'm curious to know what themes and styles will be present in the next CD you will release (if you're even thinking about that yet), since Trail of the Unwary was absolutely stunning (you're best work yet), and I was hoping the musical style in TotU would also be extended into your next masterpiece.
...Also, why was Kontio so short? I LOVED that song. SO beautiful. Thank you!

clockworkz: We haven't cast any thoughts into stone yet regarding new music, but we will most likely continue with the nature/animals/ancient times/etc. themes. I can't say anything certain where the actual music will go, but it won't be a carbon copy of any of our older material, that's for sure. We will take all the best elements from the old and make them evolve, so it won't be anything completely different either. One particular thing is that I've been wanting to try out more distorted (and metal) stuff, and the Finnish language will also be featured more prominently. Can't really say anything more specific at this point. Time will tell - even to us in the band.

Are you making the artwork for Agalloch's upcoming "The White" EP?

I'm not making artwork for it, but there will be a surprise on the LP version. I won't reveal anything else at this time I'm actually making some artwork and CD layout for the new Aarni record at the moment. Freaky as always. I'll post previews sometime in the future.

I'm not making artwork for it, but there will be a surprise on the LP version. Argh, Agalloch and their blasted LP's. Does anyone actually go out and buy those obsolete things just to hear this stuff? I suppose I could if I wanted to, with the absolute killing I made on overtime last week (31 hours o/t in addition to 40h regular, plus 16 hours holiday pay 'cause we in the States have this thing called Thanksgiving where everyone eats turkey and watches football). But I don't want to.

Heh. I hear ye. I haven't had a working LP player for years, but I must admit LPs are great as physical items, especially when the visual side and packaging is concerned. Your holidays are intriguing to me. Here in merrie olde Finlandia we just have this holiday where everyone gets drunk off their arse. It's called "weekdays"

Here are the lyrics for Last Vestige of Old Joy:
Once we played in this forest in the shade of the tall trees at the dawn of this particular time. But many an aeon has passed since and many a fate has changed.
...and our great woods died. No new seeds have been planted for ages And those that were have been torn out from the soil.

This is a comment more than a question. A lot of music has been coming out of Finland. Nest's music for me, is unique and beautiful. From "Woodsmoke" in 2002 and 2007 "Trails of the Unwary", Nest has become a very important musical entity for me. I especially like the compositional structure. I usually regard an album by it's replay potential, WS and TOTU are certainly taking up tremendous time with my player. Thank you Nest, for making my life more enjoyable.

Thank ye chaosviking. I very much enjoy hearing how people feel about our humble stuff. I'm especially taken that you've noticed the compositional structures. On 'Trail of the Unwary' I wanted to avoid any restrictions or predetermined rules and just let the songs go where "they wanted to go". I also included many elements that are not immediately evident. These hopefully add to the replay value. I can give you a hint, listen closely to the vocals (or things that seem like vocals - nature effects too), also listen to the vocal echoes when there's echoes involved. I also made bears, rivers, ice, etc. "talk" with a humanesque "voice", and there's a particularly interesting thing happening in the clean vocals of "The Turning of the Tides". I'll let you guys guess before I reveal anything specific. Happy hunting.
